Overnight Prayer Vigil Before the Altar of Repose

"Could ye not watch with me one hour?" Matthew 26:40

All Saints' will again follow the treasured custom of keeping vigil the hours in between the liturgy for Maundy Thursday and the morning of Good Friday. The prayer vigil begins Maundy Thursday at 9 pm, continues through the night, and concludes Good Friday at 9 am.

Those who sign up take turns spending an hour in quiet meditation and prayer, keeping vigil with our Lord. The inspiration for the vigil is from the Gospels of Mark and Matthew, when, in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus asks the sleeping disciples, "Could you not watch one hour? Watch and pray..." (Mark 14:38). This devotional practice has been a part of Holy Week tradition since the early church. Those who participate find it to be a meaningful time of prayer and devotion.

Email the church office with questions and/or to sign up for an hour at info@allsaintsglenrock.org.
